Which Size Should You Buy?
The 7- and 15-gallon sizes are the value play if you can wait two or three seasons. For instant impact, the field-grown 8–9 foot singles are the sweet spot on most residential lots, and doubles or triples make a statement corner planting. On new-construction lots in Cape Coral, remember city code landscape trees must generally be 25-gallon / 4-inch caliper minimum — the field-grown sizes qualify.

How fast do foxtail palms grow in SW Florida?+
Two to three feet per year with water and a proper palm fertilizer schedule. A 15-gallon foxtail typically hits 10-12 feet of overall height within three to four seasons in Cape Coral.
Are foxtail palms messy near pools?+
They are one of the cleaner choices. Foxtails are self-cleaning — spent fronds drop on their own instead of hanging dead on the trunk — and the seed clusters are easy to cut off once a year. A whole frond is heavy though, so we plant them a canopy-width away from screen enclosures.
Do foxtails survive hurricanes?+
They performed respectably in Ian — better than queens, not as bulletproof as sabals. A single clean trunk with a compact crown sheds wind well. If storm survival is your top priority, see our hurricane-resistance guide and consider sabal or coconut palms.
Can foxtail palms take salt on a canal lot?+
Moderate salt tolerance: fine on most canal lots, not for direct beachfront spray. Three streets in from open water they are generally trouble-free.
