Mulch does more work in Southwest Florida than almost anywhere. Our sandy soil holds almost no water, so a two to three inch layer over the root zone is the difference between a bed you water twice a week and one you water every day in May. It keeps soil temperature down under a Cape Coral summer sun, smothers the weeds that come up after every rain, and gives the beds a clean edge that makes the whole yard look maintained even between mowings.
We use bulk mulch, not bags, and we spread it right: beds edged first so the line is crisp, weeds pulled or cut out, old mulch raked and broken up so it does not mat, then new mulch spread at an even depth and pulled back from trunks and stems. Mulch piled against a palm trunk or a hedge base traps moisture and invites rot; you will not see a mulch volcano on our jobs. We can also swap tired mulch beds for river rock or shell where you want a lower-maintenance look.
Pine bark and Melaleuca (the Florida-friendly alternative to cypress) are our usual recommendations for tropical beds. Ask about pine straw for larger natural areas and color-enhanced mulch where you want a specific look at an entry.

How pricing works
Mulch is priced by the yard, delivered and spread, and the yardage depends on your bed area and the depth you want. A cubic yard covers roughly 100 square feet at three inches deep, so a typical Cape Coral front bed set is a few yards and a full-perimeter refresh on a larger Fort Myers or Estero lot is more. We measure the beds, tell you the yardage, and give you one written price that includes the material, delivery, edging, weeding and spreading.
Rock and shell beds, landscape fabric and bed redesign are quoted separately. Mulch is a natural add-on to a lawn maintenance plan or a planting job; if we are already there for either, ask and it goes on the same quote. Landscape contractors and property managers get the 10% trade discount.

How much mulch do I need?+
One cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at three inches deep, or about 150 square feet at two inches. Measure your bed length times width, add them up, and divide. Or send us the address and we will measure it and tell you the yardage in the quote.
What mulch is best for Southwest Florida?+
Pine bark and Melaleuca (sold as Florida-friendly mulch) hold up well, look right in tropical beds, and do not come from cutting cypress wetlands. Pine straw suits large natural areas. We avoid piling any mulch against trunks or stems, which matters more than the type.
How often should mulch be refreshed?+
Once a year for most Cape Coral and Fort Myers beds, usually in spring before the rainy season. Our heat and rain break mulch down fast, so a top-dress of an inch or two each year keeps the depth right without building it up too deep.
Do you do rock beds instead of mulch?+
Yes. River rock or shell over fabric is a good option for hot, sunny beds you do not want to refresh every year, and around pool cages where you do not want mulch tracking in. It costs more up front and is quoted separately.
